Why is proper disinfection so important?

Health risks caused by blood, bacteria, and infectious diseases can be very serious. In cases of a communicable disease or a death or accident where blood is present, there is risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens (BBP), infectious outbreaks, and structural damage to the affected property. Often these pathogens are invisible, making the disinfection process a challenging task for the inexperienced.

When blood spills are simply spot cleaned and treated with a topical solution, the affected area has not been properly disinfected. At best, this cursory surface cleaning has merely suppressed the lingering bacteria; at worst, it may have missed entire sections where the blood or fluid have pooled underneath carpets or floors. This can cause two problems: The likely return of unpleasant odours, and the growth of additional bacterial colonies. What is involved in the biohazard or chemical spill clean-up process? How do you verify that the area is clean?

Unlike usual house or business cleaning, biohazard cleaning and clean-ups is a service that requires industry expertise, specialised equipment, and appropriate certifications. The HAZGIENE remediation process ensures that we properly assess the situation, contain the affected areas to prevent cross-contamination, remove all traces of bacteria, blood, biological materials, and finally, disinfect and deodorise the area to a safe, liveable condition. Viruses like the SARS-CoV-2 virus live on the same surfaces as bacteria. At HAZTECH, we have the capability to test surface cleanliness and contamination on site. Chemical spill surface decontamination can involve more than one process to achieve the desired results. We use process, chemicals and application on a case-by-case basis.

To verify that the affected areas are free of pathogens, we use ATP tests, which measures cell activity, including bloodborne pathogens. Only when the test registers less than 60 RLU (registered light units) for standard cleaning and less than 17 RLU for elevated cleaning (hospital standards) are we satisfied with the level of cleanliness. This test adds technology, measurability, and accountability to our cleaning, clean up and biohazard remediation process. Will my homeowner insurance cover spills and remediation clean-ups?

Every loss is unique and while we cannot make any guarantees regarding your insurance coverage, in most circumstances, it does cover our services. Some insurance companies have adjusted their coverage due to Coronavirus, to cover loss and damage. As an industry classification, crime scene or biohazard cleaning is not legislatively regulated. However, there are existing standards, guidelines, regulations and restrictions for all aspects of our work. For example:
